I went to a local Taco Bell and the people working there completely messed up my order. I went back to complain and wanted to speak to the manager. I asked if I could get a refund and the manager told me that they would refund the price of my order and then as soon as she finished doing that she looked to another coworker and in front of the whole restaurant said out loud open “this is why I don’t like white bitches”. I feel I have been discriminated against, do you think I have a case?

You certainly do have a case, I would take this case in a heartbeat. First of all I would take this case just so the person who said that would be fired, I would be disgusted if I ever heard something like that said out loud in person. To be called a racial slur, because you want someone to do their job right and they didn’t and you called them on it. That’s the problem with this country, people have no responsibility for the work they should be doing. But back to the subject at hand. This is certainly discrimination, some people feel that discrimination can only happen to minorities or some disadvantaged group of individuals, this is simply not the case. You are being discriminated against based on you being white and I’m assuming a woman, and you were treated differently because you’re those things. White would be your National Heritage or your race which is a protected class, so it’s definitely discrimination based on that. The fact you’re a woman is also another protected class, so there’s definitely discrimination there. In the simple fact that this disgusting human being stated what she stated out loud and made it a point to point out not only your race but your sex, makes this an obvious discrimination matter. It is important to understand that discrimination is here to protect everybody, not a certain group of particular individuals. Yes there are certain groups that predominantly have to face discrimination, but discrimination law or civil rights law has nothing to do with any particular group. Let’s say if you went to a gay bar and you are a straight white male, and they refused to serve you because you’re not gay, that is still discrimination. You may think well I’m straight and I’m a white male, so I don’t fit any particular minority. Discrimination law and civil rights law is there for everybody, not simply for those people who predominantly must deal with discrimination on a more regular basis than someone from a different group of people. Everyone’s civil rights can be violated.
